Portuguese municipalities reaffirmed that territories hosting infrastructures fundamental to the energy transition should receive fair, transparent, and proportional compensation for their contribution to the country. The position was expressed by the Section of Municipalities for Renewable Energies of the National Association of Portuguese Municipalities (ANMP), which met on Friday in Coimbra.
The ANMP section emphasized the need for adequate recognition of municipalities hosting energy infrastructures, defending that these territories should not bear alone the impacts resulting from the installation of renewable energy projects.
The Coimbra meeting is part of the broader context of energy transition in Portugal, where municipalities play a crucial role in implementing infrastructures such as wind farms, solar plants, and other clean energy facilities. ANMP has been defending that local communities should benefit equitably from projects developed in their territories.
