The national leader of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, and the president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, showed unity at an event held in the municipality of Getafe, in Madrid, to start a new political season. This event marks the beginning of preparations for the 2027 regional and municipal elections.
Both popular leaders left behind the latest controversies that affected them, including the purchase of the Chamberí apartment by Ayuso and the fact that the PP's regional leaders did not support the Madrid protest at the meeting of the Council for Fiscal and Financial Policy held on Friday.
Feijóo harshly accused the president of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, of "encouraging" the arrival of migrants and of preferring the Moroccan king over King Felipe VI. The two PP leaders attacked the president of the Spanish Executive with intensity during the event.
The event in Getafe represented a demonstration of strength and reconciliation between the two most prominent figures of the Popular Party, at a time when important elections approach that will define the Spanish political landscape in the coming years.
