The Campo de Jogos Pereira Bom, in Bencatel, inaugurated on Saturday, September 5th, a new synthetic turf. The ceremony featured the presence of representatives of the Municipality of Vila Viçosa, the Évora Football Association, Bencatelense, and the local community. The president of Bencatelense, André Rocha, classified the moment as a "historic day" for the parish and for all sports practitioners.
The intervention represented an investment of approximately 200 thousand euros, fully covered by the Municipality of Vila Viçosa, without recourse to external funding. In addition to the replacement of the turf, the irrigation system was also renovated. Mayor Inácio Esperança explained that the work proved necessary due to the intense use of the field, both by the senior team and by the various youth categories of the club.
The president of the Municipal Council highlighted that the investment is justified by the high number of young practitioners in the parish, arguing that it is essential to ensure that young people can practice sports in their own town. André Rocha reinforced this idea, stating that the new turf represents a bet on the future of the club and its youth teams.
The Évora Football Association also marked its presence at the inauguration. Its president, António Pereira, considered the work particularly important for Bencatel, highlighting that turfs with better conditions help reduce the problem of player injuries. The inauguration coincided with the holding of the fifth edition of the Silvério Lopes Tournament, which serves as preparation for the new season of Bencatelense.
