They thought they had found a shipwreck at 1,500 meters deep. In the end... it was a "laundry"

SAPO Notícias5 September 2026 at 11:14

A marine exploration team thought they had discovered a shipwreck at the bottom of the Gulf of Mexico, at more than 1,500 meters depth. The sonar revealed a debris field and an object of considerable size, large enough to be the hull of a wrecked vessel.

The initial discovery seemed promising for the researchers, who expected to find traces of a historic vessel or a naval incident. The extreme depth made the expedition particularly challenging and exciting.

However, after a more detailed analysis, it was discovered that the debris did not belong to any shipwreck. The object turned out to be identified as a completely different structure, which the authors of the article ironically describe as a "laundry," thus demystifying the initial expectation of finding a lost ship.

Israeli army killed seven World Central Kitchen humanitarian workers in Gaza after associating them with Hamas. But they were not from Hamas

An investigation revealed that seven World Central Kitchen humanitarian workers were killed by the Israeli army in Gaza in April 2024 after a misidentification that associated them with Hamas. The attack resulted from a controversial military practice that gives commanders leeway to identify targets based on the alleged association with combatants. Although World Central Kitchen had coordinated the movements of its teams with Israeli forces, a convoy with three international staff members was hit by three rockets, causing deaths of various nationalities. Israel attributed the incident to a misassessment and failures to follow established procedures.
