The two Portuguese clubs FC Porto and Sporting are the only representatives of Portugal in the main European club competition, the Champions League. Both start this week the new league phase of the competition, which replaces the old group format.

The two national clubs already have 43 million euros secured in prizes, an amount that represents a significant financial guarantee for the participating Portuguese clubs.
