Sanjay Shah, 30 years old, and Kabir Maharjan, 45 years old, are the two workers rescued alive after spending nine days trapped in the Trishuli-3 tunnel in Nepal. Shah worked as a mechanical supervisor, while Maharjan acted as a supervisor on one of the construction sites affected by the landslide that devastated the border region with China on August 26.
The two were found by Nepalese emergency teams after days of searching through buried, flooded and mud-covered tunnels. Nepalese rescuers were assisted by specialists from India, China and South Korea during the rescue operation.
Images released by the Ministry of Energy show the moment one of the men is pulled from an opening covered in mud. The other appears covered in mud, with hands joined in prayer, as he is carried by rescuers on a stretcher.
