A landslide occurred around 4am on Saturday (local time) in Jiangxi province, China, leaving at least one person dead and 11 others missing. The collapse happened in the city of Gaoping, in Suichuan county, after heavy rains caused by the passage of Typhoon Saudel. Twelve houses were reportedly damaged and ten people were trapped by the earth, according to state broadcaster CCTV.
Rescue teams were able to act quickly and relocate residents to safer areas. Two people were pulled from the mud alive and are doing well. Local authorities informed Reuters and Associated Press agencies about the tragedy.
Typhoon Saudel made landfall twice in Zhejiang province on August 28 and made a third "landing" as a weaker tropical storm in Fujian on Thursday (3), according to the Xinhua news agency. More than 600 thousand people were evacuated due to the typhoon's passage.
