Group buys more than 25 million lottery combinations in the US, spends R$ 133 million and receives R$ 296 million

In Austin, Texas, a group of bettors put into practice, in April 2023, an unusual strategy to drastically increase their chances of winning the state lottery: they bought about 25.8 million possible combinations of the Lotto Texas, in an operation that cost approximately US$ 26 million, about R$ 133 million. The initiative was considered mathematically advantageous because the accumulated jackpot had reached US$ 95 million, about R$ 490 million.

In the game, it is necessary to match six numbers and, at that time, there were approximately 25.8 million possible combinations. By purchasing practically all of them, the group significantly reduced the possibility of missing the main prize. The strategy, however, required a large-scale logistics operation, with millions of tickets printed in just a few days at authorized establishments.

The group won and chose to receive the prize in a single lump sum, getting about US$ 57.8 million, about R$ 296 million.

Disability pensions have specific rules, with absolute disability pension not being allowed to accumulate with work and relative disability having accumulation limits. After the pensioner's death, amounts paid improperly can be claimed from the estate or joint account holders.
