Director Tiago Rodrigues is returning to Portugal with the play "La Distance", which explores the relationship between a father and a daughter. The play addresses one of the paradoxes of our time: the more technology allows us to be in contact with the entire planet, the more it places us in a position of isolation from those around us.
Tiago Rodrigues is currently the director of the Avignon Festival, one of the most prestigious theater festivals in Europe. In the interview that accompanies the play, he states that he does not find an audience anesthetized by the populist ideas of the radical right, but rather a more irritated and reactive audience.
The director argues that theater is one of the places that allows us to counteract what he calls the inevitable flood of screens in our lives, a concern he considers especially relevant for young people. The play thus arrives in Portugal at a time when Rodrigues continues to make an international mark as an artist and cultural programmer.
