GLOBO is presenting interviews with the main candidates for the two Senate seats in Rio de Janeiro. This week, the series features an interview with candidate Benedita da Silva (PT), current federal deputy from the state.
Benedita da Silva was elected senator in 1994 and is now running for the same position again, 32 years later. She justifies her candidacy by stating that Brazil needs her experience, as does Rio de Janeiro, a state facing serious difficulties.
The candidate revealed she supports Eduardo Paes (PSD) in the race for state government. Regarding the Senate, she states that, if elected, she will not be in the House calling for impeachment of Supreme Court ministers without prior investigation.
Benedita criticized the current representation of Rio in the Senate, saying that the population does not know their representatives, with the exception of Romário, who is well-known. According to her, the other senators do not engage with society and just "sit in a chair" without doing their representation work.
