SAPO Notícias5 September 2026 at 05:31

Timorese diplomat Francisco Dionísio F. "Maukura", veteran of the Timorese resistance, today announced his intention to run in the presidential elections to be held next year. Maukura is a well-known figure in Timor-Leste's politics and diplomacy, having been part of the struggle for the country's independence.

The candidate expressed his desire to promote the country's development if elected President of the Republic. His political program is also based on defending respect for the Timorese Constitution.

This is not the first time Maukura has run in presidential elections. The diplomat has previously competed in electoral contests, although without success in previous attempts.
