The United States assured that ships can safely navigate the Strait of Hormuz, one of the most important maritime routes for crude transport worldwide.

However, Iran contested this statement and refused to guarantee the safety of navigation in that strategic waterway.

According to the news, the attack was allegedly a retaliation for a previous American attack that also targeted a wedding.
