The Advocacia-Geral da União (AGU) stated on Friday that the decision not to adopt the measures requested by the Federal Police, within the scope of the Compliance Zero and Sem Desconto operations, was based on a strictly technical and legal analysis. In a note, the AGU denied having been inert and stated it does not have the legal competence to act in the terms requested by the corporation.
The statement comes after the Federal Police pointed out, in an intelligence report, that the AGU did not adopt requested measures against decisions by Justice André Mendonça, of the Supreme Federal Court, within the scope of the two investigations.
The clash began when the Federal Police started demanding that the AGU act before the STF to try to reduce Justice Dias Toffoli's control over the investigations of which he was the rapporteur. With the cases now under Mendonça's rapporteurship, a series of decisions by the justice limiting the PF's access to the investigations had been bothering the corporation's leadership.
