Nomad World Games: 'Olympics' of Central Asia features unusual sports and even Brazilian fans

cbn4 September 2026 at 22:51

The sixth edition of the Nomad World Games is taking place this week in Kyrgyzstan, a small country nestled in Central Asia. The event, considered a kind of "Olympics" of nomadic peoples, returned to the country where it originated due to the traditions of these peoples, who live in camps without settling in one place, traditions that remain alive to this day.

The program this year features more than 40 sports modalities, bringing together 3,000 athletes from 106 countries. Among the most unusual competitions are falconry, "bone-breaking," archery during horse races, and even a kind of "football" where teams compete over a goat. All the modalities are ethnic cultural expressions, usually of Asian peoples, divided into categories that include wrestling, strength competitions, horse races, archery, mental sports, and animal training.

Brazil is present at the event, despite the 14,000 kilometers of distance separating the country from the competitions. The Brazilian participation demonstrates the international reach of the Nomad World Games, which in 2026 will reach their sixth edition.
