The promise of the English duo Nova Twins came true in the first seconds of their show at Rock in Rio's Palco Mundo stage on Friday afternoon. The members, described as real-life versions of Bratz dolls, left the still-small crowd stunned with the sonic wall built for the opening song, "Antagonist."
Next, the countless Amy Love put the guitar aside and went to rap on "Cleopatra," a mix of Pussycat Dolls and Rage Against The Machine, guided by the effect-laden bass of Georgia South. The sonic pandemonium continued through "Taxi" and, in "Soprano," let sensuality escape through the cracks.
By this point, it was one of those shows where the audience wondered: what is this? Mutant heavy metal? Punked R&B? Apocalyptic pop? The condensation of a very wild streaming playlist? All of that and much more.
