Elanco Certification Provides Access to Sustainable Rural Credit

oglobo4 September 2026 at 21:48

Elanco Animal Health announced during Expointer 2026 the creation of the Positive Efficiency+ Certification (SEI Process No. 21000.054224/2026-59), a protocol focused on pasture-based beef cattle that was validated by the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock through publication in the Federal Official Gazette.

The certification was developed in compliance with MAPA Ordinance No. 876/2025 and aims to allow certified farms to access discounts on interest rates from the Harvest Plan, both for production and investment, facilitating the automatic inclusion of properties in the AgroBrasil + Sustainable Platform.

The mechanism seeks to link measurable indicators of productive efficiency and emission reduction to more favorable credit conditions, making the transition to low-carbon cattle ranching economically viable.

To obtain certification, the property must adopt Zimprova™, a veterinary product developed by Elanco itself.

Submarine cable between Portugal and Morocco only with private or EU funding

The construction of a submarine electrical cable between Portugal and Morocco is being considered by the Portuguese government, but will only proceed with private financing or European funds, revealed the Minister of Environment and Energy, Maria da Graça Carvalho, after meetings with her Moroccan counterpart. The project, estimated at around one billion euros, aims to create an energy alternative for Portugal in blackout situations, like the one recorded in April last year, when the country had to restart the electrical system alone after the Iberian failure. The minister acknowledged that the initiative is still in an initial phase of discussions, but highlighted that the main advantage would be having an independent electrical restart pathway from Spain. The project has generated concerns in Spain, which sees the initiative as a potential reduction of its relevance as an energy hub on the Iberian Peninsula.

"It is yet another great victory for Portugal," says Miranda Sarmento after Fitch upgrades rating to A+

The financial rating agency Fitch upgraded Portugal's rating from A to A+, which represents the second upgrade since April 2024 and the fourth upward revision in the last two years. The Minister of Finance, Joaquim Miranda Sarmento, celebrated the decision as "yet another great victory for Portugal," highlighting that the improvement occurred in a context of geopolitical and economic uncertainty. Fitch justified the upgrade with the trajectory of public debt reduction, which is expected to fall to 87% of GDP, and with more robust fiscal balances, even forecasting a surplus of 0.1% in 2026. The agency also estimates Portuguese GDP growth of 2.1% this year, above the eurozone average, with investment as the main driver of expansion.

Wall Street closes lower with strong employment data reinforcing rate hike bets

Wall Street closed lower on Friday, September 4, 2026, after an unexpectedly strong employment report (162,000 jobs created in August, well above the expected 55,000) reinforced expectations of an interest rate hike by the Federal Reserve at the mid-month meeting. The Dow Jones fell 0.51%, the S&P 500 lost 0.38% and the Nasdaq retreated 0.29%. Despite Trump continuing to call for rate cuts, the market assigns more than 50% probability to an increase. Among companies, UiPath fell more than 16% after disappointing results, Lululemon retreated 17% due to revenues below expectations and Tesla lost about 6% with the start of its Cybercab robotaxi service in Austin. Oil prices rose slightly, driven by US-Iran attacks, while the US Treasury announced sanctions on Turkish bank Golden Global Bank for financing Iran.

Finance Minister celebrates rating upgrade as "another great victory for Portugal"

The Ministry of Finance celebrated Portugal's rating upgrade from A to A+ by the Fitch agency, the second elevation since April 2024 and the fourth positive revision in two years, including those promoted by S&P. The country now has a rating equal to that of France, Belgium and other Eurozone countries, with only six nations in the zone surpassing it. Minister Joaquim Miranda Sarmento considered the upgrade "another great victory for Portugal", noting that it occurs in a context of geopolitical uncertainty. Fitch is more optimistic than the Government itself, forecasting a public debt ratio of 87% at year-end, a budget surplus of 0.1% and GDP growth of 2.1% in 2026, driven mainly by investment.
