Virtual queues at Rock in Rio 2026 stands promise to streamline life of freebie hunters

oglobo4 September 2026 at 21:08

Rock in Rio 2026 sponsors are implementing virtual queue systems for entry to their stands during the festival, which starts this Friday (4). The initiative aims to optimize visitors' experience, mainly those known as "freebie hunters," who in other editions spend hours waiting to get freebies at sponsor spaces.

The chocolate brand KitKat is one of the examples of sponsors that adopted the novelty. The brand's stand has two floors and a view of Palco Mundo stage, and uses a QR Code as the basis for the virtual queue system.

The operation is simple: upon arriving at the City of Rock, the visitor needs to go to the stand and point their phone camera at the code displayed on the facade. This way, the promise is to reduce the time fans would spend standing in the sun or rain waiting to enter sponsor spaces.

The Hives: band name came from confusion about disease and idea of 'spreading like an epidemic'; find out more

The Swedish band The Hives, performing at Rock in Rio, has a curious story behind its name. In the 1990s, drummer Chris Dangerous found the word "hives" in a dictionary and suggested it to his bandmates, who mistakenly understood that the term meant a highly contagious and lethal disease, when in fact it refers only to hives, an allergic skin reaction that is not transmissible. The idea of a band that could "spread like an epidemic" pleased the group, which kept the name. The confusion ended up contributing to the band's identity, formed in Fagersta, Sweden.
