The Municipality of Évora contracted 6.54 million euros in financing from the Recovery and Resilience Plan for three interventions in cultural heritage associated with Évora 2027 – European Capital of Culture. The projects that went ahead include the Old Granaries of EPAC, the Arena of Évora, and Rossio de São Brás, with a contractual execution rate of 94.1% on the 6.95 million euros initially approved for these three interventions.
The Old Granaries of EPAC have the highest execution rate, at 99.9% of the 2.35 million euros approved. The Arena of Évora executed approximately 473 thousand euros of the 500 thousand euros approved, corresponding to 94.6%. Rossio de São Brás concentrates the largest investment, with 4.1 million euros approved and execution of approximately 3.72 million euros, i.e., 90.8%.
Two initially planned projects were not executed due to empty calls for proposals. The Municipal Photographic Archive, with 500 thousand euros approved, and the Convento dos Remédios, with 470 thousand euros approved, total 970 thousand euros that were not executed. The municipality states that, despite the efforts made to prepare the interventions, the tender procedures did not attract bidders.
The financing initially approved for all five projects amounted to 7.92 million euros. The spaces renovated will be part of the cultural infrastructure available to host the programming of Évora 2027, when the Alentejo city will be the European Capital of Culture.
