The Ministry of Health approved the SNS Global Reference Framework, a document that establishes goals and projections for the national health system. This reference framework aims to guide the planning and management of resources of the Portuguese National Health Service.
According to the projections in this document, stagnation in the number of family doctors is expected until 2028. This forecast raises concerns regarding citizens' access to primary healthcare.
The dispatch that approves this reference framework takes effect from January 1st of the current year, thus coming into force at the beginning of 2024. This information indicates that the document is already officially in implementation.
