New contract: Barcelona want to protect Hamza Abdelkarim

Record4 September 2026 at 20:06

Barcelona are working to strengthen the contractual protection of Hamza Abdelkarim, the young Egyptian forward who is just 18 years old and has attracted great interest in the European market. The Catalan club intend to update the player's contract to ensure they do not lose one of their biggest prospects to rivals willing to pay his release clause.

The current release clause of the young Egyptian is set at just 15 million euros, a value considered low by current European football standards, which makes Abdelkarim an attractive target for several clubs. This affordable price has worried Barcelona's management, who intend to quickly increase this clause or find ways to tie the player to the club for longer.

Abdelkarim has shown promising quality in Barcelona's youth ranks, having already received opportunities in the first team. His potential has attracted the attention of several European clubs, who could easily activate the million-dollar clause to secure his services without Barcelona having much room for manoeuvre.

The Catalan club thus intend to present a renewal proposal that includes a significantly higher release clause, aligning the contract with the market value that the player has demonstrated. This strategy comes in a context where Barcelona have been investing in retaining young talents from their academy as a way to guarantee the club's sporting future.
