The Portuguese Institute for the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) announced that the exceptional heat recorded on September 3rd made that date one of the hottest ever in Portugal. Temperatures significantly exceeded normal values for this time of year.
Alcochete was the location that recorded the highest maximum temperature on Thursday, reaching 44.3°C. This value represents one of the most extreme heat peaks ever measured in Portuguese territory.
IPMA monitored the meteorological conditions during this episode of intense heat, which affected several regions of the country. The heat wave lasted for several days, contributing to this exceptional situation.
