The Supreme Federal Court (STF) is going through its sharpest crisis in democratic times, according to the analysis. The court faces pressure not to let itself be contaminated by political preferences and to allow evidence of Minister Alexandre de Moraes' involvement in illegalities to be investigated.
The latest episode in the crisis involves a maneuver by Moraes himself. Instead of defending himself by waiving his bank and phone records to safeguard his honor, he preferred to request an investigation against Minister André Mendonça, using a Federal Police report.
The PF itself declared that the report used as a basis was prepared based on weak information sources and has no value as evidence. Still, Moraes made the request, which according to the report only creates procedural turmoil.
The report suggests that the request for an investigation against Mendonça may be intended to divert attention from the compromising revelations about Alexandre de Moraes' relations with banker Daniel Vorcaro.
