The Loures City Council will distribute 20,000 wristbands that allow the detection of substances used to adulterate drinks, namely GHB, known as the "rape drug". This initiative makes the municipality of Loures a pioneer in this area of prevention.
The wristbands are mainly intended for young people who frequent nightlife. The researcher responsible for the innovation spoke to Olhares de Lisboa about the project, admitting that the solution "won't save the world", but highlighting that it "will save the world" of young people who go out at night.
This measure comes in a context of growing concern over cases of drink adulteration with substances that affect victims' consciousness, facilitating abuse situations. The distribution of wristbands represents an attempt to prevent and protect young people during their nights out.
