President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva stated this Friday, during an event at the Palace of the Presidency, that there is great expectation from Brazilian society regarding Supreme Court President Edson Fachin and Attorney General Paulo Gonet, amid the crisis involving investigations into the Master Case and ministers of the Court.
Lula demanded answers about the situation, without directly naming names, and stated that no one can use the position they hold for their own benefit in the name of democracy. The president again criticized what he called "selective leaks" for political and economic interests, warning that if the "fake news industry" is not curbed, Justice will lose credibility.
Edson Fachin responded by guaranteeing a rigorous and firm response to the investigations, but without haste, without shortcuts, and respecting the due legal process provided for in the Constitution. Lula said he spoke with Fachin about society's expectations regarding the STF and the Attorney General's Office.
