The European border control agency, Frontex, has deployed the Spanish patrol vessel Duque de Ahumada to the English Channel. The main objective is to assist French authorities in search and rescue operations for migrants.
The crossing of the English Channel is described as dangerous, with many migrants risking their lives to try to cross from France to the United Kingdom in small vessels.
The Spanish vessel will reinforce surveillance in what is one of Europe's busiest migratory routes, supporting French authorities in identifying and assisting vessels carrying migrants.
This deployment is part of Frontex's operations to assist member states in managing the external borders of the European Union, particularly in areas with high migratory flows.
