Santos published a video on Friday with a statement from forward Gabigol after the backlash over his statement about a possible return to Flamengo. The player, who is an idol of the red-and-black team, has a contract with Cruzeiro and is on loan to the São Paulo club.

In the video, Gabigol stated that his intention was not to disrespect Santos and that the content was taken out of context. He explained that parts of his statements were cut, which made the message come out different from what he intended.

The forward stated that everyone knows that Santos is the team of his heart and that he is very happy in his third stint at the club. He also declared respect for Cruzeiro, informing that he has two more years on his contract and is at Santos only on loan.

Gabigol added that there is always doubt about what to say when the topic involves Flamengo, but that he has affection and respect for the city, fans, and teammates of Santos.
