Ratings. SIC wins August by five tenths, CNN maintains one-tenth advantage in news

SIC was again the most watched channel in Portugal during the month of August, but the difference from TVI shrank to just five tenths. This convergence results from a 1.5 percentage point drop at SIC and of just 0.1 percentage points at TVI, compared to July. In absolute numbers, SIC achieved an average of 278.5 thousand viewers, TVI 269 thousand and RTP1 lagged behind at 235.4 thousand. Regarding share, SIC stood at 13.4%, TVI at 12.9% and RTP1 at 11.3%, one percentage point less than in July.

In the analysis by time slots, RTP1 maintains leadership between 7:30 a.m. and 12 p.m., SIC from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m., TVI from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. and also from midnight onward. RTP continues to be the most watched channel in access to prime time, while SIC reinforces its position in prime time. The most watched programs continue to be football, with SIC broadcasting the Europa League pre-qualifier between Benfica and Hearts and the playoff against the Danes from Aarhus Gf. In total, the Paço de Arcos station placed seven programs among the 17 most watched, RTP1 six and TVI two.

In the news segment, CNN Portugal maintains leadership with an advantage of one tenth over SIC Notícias and now of 0.4 percentage points over Now, which was the only news channel to grow in August. RTP Notícias appears further down with 1.2% share, the same value as the previous month. Among cable channels, CMTV continues to occupy first position, accompanied on average by 125.1 thousand viewers, and fills 12 of the 15 positions in the cable programs most watched ranking, with the remaining positions occupied by SIC Notícias and CNN Portugal.
