Zelensky promises sanctions after shooting between SBU and GUR agents in Kiev

SIC Notícias4 September 2026 at 17:43

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky identified two suspected agents involved in a shooting between members of the SBU (Security Service of Ukraine) and the GUR (Main Intelligence Directorate) in Kiev. The incident generated great tension between the two main intelligence agencies of the country.

In response to the incident, Zelensky announced the dismissal of the deputy heads of both the SBU and the GUR, in an attempt to demonstrate disciplinary action against what he considered an unacceptable situation between agencies that should cooperate.

The agents involved in the shooting were released under judicial control, meaning they were subject to surveillance measures while legal proceedings continue.

The investigation into the full circumstances of the incident is ongoing, with authorities attempting to clarify the causes that led to the armed confrontation between members of two entities that, in theory, should work together in defending Ukraine's national interests.
