The president of the Senate, Davi Alcolumbre (União-AP), has been making moves to distance himself from Senator and PL presidential candidate Flavio Bolsonaro amid the crisis involving the Supreme Federal Court (STF). Alcolumbre is an ally of Justice Alexandre de Moraes, of the STF, and has adopted a stance of demanding that investigations into the Master case advance against the opponent of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in the elections.
Previously seen as an independent figure who would serve the opposition one moment and the government the next, Alcolumbre returned to drawing closer to Lula during the electoral campaign. He has been pressured by the opposition to open an impeachment process against Moraes after the disclosure of messages from banker Daniel Vorcaro seeking guidance from the magistrate.
In response to the pressures, Alcolumbre has cited the need to investigate the financing of the film "Dark Horse," a biography of former President Jair Bolsonaro. The president of the Senate's strategy aims to counter the opposition's criticisms by also including investigations into the financing of the film linked to the Bolsonaro family on the agenda.
Audio recordings obtained by the Federal Police show that Flavio Bolsonaro sought out the Master executive to negotiate payments. The Master case involves investigations into alleged irregularities, and Alcolumbre has used this information to reinforce his position that the inquiries should reach both sides of the political spectrum.
