Ibama authorized this Friday the drilling of three more oil wells in the region of Foz do Amazonas, in the Equatorial Margin. The decision was made after state-owned Petrobras had already announced, last month, the discovery of oil in the first well drilled in the area, called Morpho.
The three new wells will have as their main objective to delimit the reservoir found and verify if the deposit is economically viable for future commercial exploration. The drilling of these complementary wells is considered fundamental so that Petrobras can evaluate the real potential of the discovery.
Petrobras plans to invest US$ 2.5 billion in the region between 2026 and 2030. The value represents a significant commitment by the state-owned company to the exploration of the Equatorial Margin, which has been pointed out as one of Brazil's new oil frontiers.
The region of Foz do Amazonas has attracted great interest from the energy sector due to its exploratory potential. The original article contained graphs and images explaining in detail how the exploration process will work, but Petrobras emphasizes that the economic viability of the area can only be confirmed after the completion of the additional drillings.
