MP investigates inheritance of nearly R$ 100 million from former São Paulo Finance director

The Public Ministry is investigating an inheritance of nearly R$ 100 million from the father of former São Paulo Treasury director André Weiss, arrested on Thursday on charges of leading the public nucleus of a corruption scheme. His father was a retired engineer and researcher, but prosecutors point out that the assets would be incompatible with this professional profile.

The inheritance inventory records an operation of nearly R$ 100 million; however, the registry office reported to Coaf, in the same document, a value of approximately R$ 579 thousand. The MP suspects that the inheritance was overvalued to give a legal appearance to funds of illicit origin.

In addition to the inventory, Coaf identified six real estate transactions carried out by Weiss and his partner with values considered abnormal, in addition to more than R$ 6.6 million in atypical bank transactions.

There is also suspicion of money laundering involving Weiss's brother-in-law, who declared a monthly income of about R$ 18 thousand, but moved more than R$ 12 million in one year.
