The state of São Paulo decided to include West Nile fever in the viral arbovirus panel routinely conducted by sentinel health units spread throughout the territory. The decision was made by the state Health Department, with the goal of monitoring the disease's distribution across the entire territory.
Regiane de Paula, coordinator of Health Surveillance in the state of São Paulo, stated that the concern is to be prepared and include the virus in the panel to monitor the disease. She assured that there is no concern regarding a possible epidemic.
Recently, the state of São Paulo confirmed its first two cases in the history of the disease, recorded in two cities in the interior: Ribeirão Preto and São José do Rio Preto. Two other cases were also confirmed this year in Santa Catarina.
