Amid an unprecedented crisis at the Supreme Federal Court (STF), President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva said on Friday that no one can use their position for personal benefit in the name of democracy. The statement was made at the Palácio do Planalto during an event where he sanctioned the creation of funds for the Federal Justice.
Lula was alongside STF President Edson Fachin when he made the declaration. The president also stated that he defends judicial reform and guaranteed he is making a "supernatural effort" so that society maintains its "faith" in the institutions.
The president said that any country with strong democracy has institutions that guarantee its functioning. According to Lula, there are people who try to weaken and discredit these institutions, when in reality they function with great competence.
Lula also announced that he will hold a deep discussion about judicial reform for next year, with the objective that the population continues believing in the country's institutions.
