Former Rio Mayor Eduardo Paes (PSD), candidate for governor of Rio de Janeiro state, criticized on Friday the state government's decision to invest resources in the samba school parades at Marquês de Sapucaí, including for the maintenance of a box. According to him, the capital's city government is capable of bearing this type of event on its own, and the state's money should be directed to municipalities in the interior of the state.
Paes stated that the governor should not spend in the city of Rio the same amounts that his predecessor Cláudio Castro allocated to Sapucaí to maintain boxes for him and his friends, considering that this is not the role of a state governor in the capital.
If elected, one of Paes's proposals is to hold an event along the lines of "Everybody in Rio" in the Lagos Region. The show, which in recent years has featured performances by Shakira, Lady Gaga, and Madonna, would be adapted for the tourist region.
