The Azores celebrate 50 years of autonomy in a context of PSD criticism regarding how the mainland treats the region. The parliamentary leader of the Social Democratic Party in the Azores considered that "the country turns its back on the Azores" and warned of non-compliance issues that require urgent resolution.
The party advocated for the immediate revision of the Regional Finance Law as one of the fundamental priorities. This law regulates the transfer of financial resources to the autonomous regions and has been a source of tension between the regional government and the national executive.
The PSD's position emerges within the framework of celebrations marking the fiftieth anniversary of Azorean autonomy, underscoring the region's demands regarding financing and recognition from the mainland.
