FEDERAÇÃO DISTRITAL DE ÉVORA| PARTIDO SOCIALISTA – The Eastern Variant of Évora on the IP2 is a work of PS governance

oRegiões4 September 2026 at 16:15

The Socialist Party of Évora congratulated itself on the inauguration, this Thursday, of the Eastern Variant of Évora on the IP2, a road infrastructure with 12.8 kilometres in length and a motorway profile. The work represented an investment of 54.9 million euros, financed by the Recovery and Resilience Plan.

The PS considered this moment a historic victory for the region and the fulfillment of a commitment made to the people of Alentejo. The party recalled that the work had been abandoned and completely paralysed since 2011, due to the austerity policy and disinvestment of the PSD government, which, according to the PS, chose to forget the interior of the country.

It was PS governance that made it possible to rescue the project, secure the European funds through the PRR, and sign the works contract in November 2024. The variant aims to remove heavy traffic from the centre of Évora and enhance the economic development and road safety of all of Alentejo.

The PS of Évora also stated that this is not an isolated initiative, highlighting the opening of requalified sections of the IP8 between Ferreira do Alentejo and Beja, Santa Margarida do Sado and Ferreira do Alentejo, and Relvas Verdes and Roncão, in a total investment exceeding 109 million euros, resulting from planning and works contracts launched under socialist governance between July and October 2024.

The success of the far-right leader shakes Australia

Pauline Hanson, leader of the Australian far right and founder of the One Nation party, threatens to break the bipartisanship that has prevailed in Australian democracy. At 73 years old and an admirer of Donald Trump, Hanson is preparing for a major electoral leap in the federal elections scheduled for 2028, with polls giving her 30% voting intention, above the Labor Party (in government) and the Coalition (liberals and conservatives), the main traditional forces. It is the first time that a third party surpasses traditional Australian parties in opinion polls.

What we want to know is about the dream

Only 30 days remain until the next Brazilian elections, which take place amid the greatest institutional crisis of the New Republic. The three branches of government are affected by an unprecedented crisis of confidence, especially the Supreme Federal Court. Brazilians will choose a president, governors, senators, and federal deputies in a context where electoral programs compete for (and lose) the population's attention in the face of the erosion of ethical and moral values in public institutions.
