The illegal commerce of counterfeit products competes for space with formal stores in Brazil's major metropolises, with the normalization of irregular commerce being evident on the streets. In Rio de Janeiro, a walk through Copacabana reveals a vast offer of pirated products and counterfeits.
On Siqueira Campos street, between Barata Ribeiro and Edmundo Lins, counterfeit product sales points were identified just a few meters apart on the sidewalk. The stretch is busy, located next to a subway station, three supermarkets, and various stores, snack bars, restaurants, and bars.
At a stand with hundreds of eyeglass frames, a man identified as Ramiro, 32 years old, claimed to earn about R$ 500 in a day of good sales. He sells fake models of brands like Dolce&Gabbana, Prada, Dior, and Ray-Ban.
