Drone attack: Zelensky accuses Russia of trying to kill director of Ukraine's intelligence services

SAPO Notícias4 September 2026 at 15:17

A Russian drone struck this Friday the central building of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), in downtown Kiev. The attack caused damage to the Ukrainian intelligence agency's building.

President Volodymyr Zelensky accused Russia of trying to kill SBU director Vasyl Malyuk in this attack. Zelensky reacted to the incident on social media, stating that the objective of the attack was to eliminate the head of the Ukrainian intelligence services.

The attack occurs at a time of escalation of the conflict between the two countries, with Russia intensifying drone attacks against Kiev and other Ukrainian cities in recent weeks.

The SBU is Ukraine's main intelligence service and has played a central role in coordinating counterintelligence operations and gathering military information during the war.
