The PSD in Ponte de Lima announced that the court ruled in favor of the Parish Council of Rebordões Santa Maria, determining the suspension of the decision by the Concelhia Association of Feiras Novas that excluded the parish from the ethnographic procession of Feiras Novas. The judicial decision came as a result of an interim injunction filed by the Parish Council, ordering the Association to refrain from preventing the parish's participation, provided that the applicable general rules observed by all participants were complied with.
In a statement, the party considered that the judicial decision puts an end to an absolutely regrettable episode that should never have happened and that unnecessarily exposed Ponte de Lima, Feiras Novas, and its institutions. The PSD stated that this outcome should compel the Municipal Council and the Association's leadership to engage in serious reflection on how the process was conducted.
The social democrats also pointed to previous episodes of tension between the current municipal executive and the president of the Parish Council of Rebordões Santa Maria, raising doubts about a possible unequal treatment related to the local official's political choices. The party emphasized that institutions are not instruments of political retaliation and that Feiras Novas is certainly not, concluding that this process lacked dialogue, consideration, institutional sense, and leadership.
