Government creates 12 million euro support for wine producers

SAPO Notícias4 September 2026 at 14:57

The Council of Ministers approved a new 12 million euro support package for wine producers in the Douro region. The measure was announced by the Minister of the Presidency, António Leitão Amaro, during the executive meeting.

The support is specifically aimed at wine growers in the Duriense region, one of the most traditional and important wine-producing areas in Portugal. This region is known for the production of Port wine and other high-quality wines.

The creation of this support package comes in a context of difficulties for the wine sector, which has been facing challenges related to climate change, market fluctuations, and high production costs. The 12 million euros represent a significant investment to help mitigate these problems.

António Leitão Amaro, as Minister of the Presidency, was responsible for presenting this initiative in the Council of Ministers, reinforcing the Government's commitment to the protection and enhancement of national wine production, particularly in the Douro region.
