The digitalization of the Brazilian electricity sector is advancing and expanding the need for professionals prepared to handle new technologies, processes, and data volumes. The expansion of smart metering, the use of telemetering systems, integration between platforms, and the advancement of the free energy market are transforming activities that range from field work to the management and analysis of consumption information.
The Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME) established for 2026 a minimum additional evolution in the digitalization of distribution networks with smart metering, equivalent to 2% per year of consumer units, for 24 months initially in concession areas. This movement reinforces the need for professionals capable of installing, configuring, operating, monitoring, and extracting value and analysis from the data generated by the metering infrastructure.
The transformation also broadens the scope of knowledge required to work in the area. Beyond the aspects related to equipment installation and maintenance, professionals need to develop competencies in data analysis, understanding of integrated systems, and consumption information management. This change represents a significant alteration in the professional profile required by the sector.
