App-based workers already form a contingent of almost two million people in Brazil. The survey on work through digital platforms, released by IBGE in conjunction with Unicamp and the Ministry of Public Labor, allows us to draw a portrait of who uses apps for their livelihood. In total, 1.8 million Brazilians work through apps as their main activity.
Most of these workers operate in passenger transport. Six in every ten (58.9%), representing almost 1.2 million people, were in this segment, including taxi drivers. Another 29.9%, or approximately 585,000 workers, were linked to delivery activities, according to questionnaire responses.
Regarding the profile, they are mostly men, with intermediate education and who work for themselves, that is, without formal employment ties to the digital platforms they use.
