Nine team leaders from the pediatric emergency service at Hospital D. Estefânia in Lisbon submitted their resignation. The professionals allege a lack of conditions to ensure the service, denouncing a situation that compromises the functioning of the unit.
The hospital administration acknowledges the existence of "constraints in filling work schedules." According to management, these problems are due not only to the vacation period, but also to the lack of specialists in the pediatric field.
This mass resignation occurs in a context of pressure on emergency services in Portugal, where several hospitals have faced difficulties in hiring pediatric doctors. Hospital D. Estefânia is a reference in pediatric healthcare provision in the Lisbon region.
