Number of app-based workers grows by almost half a million in three years, says IBGE

The number of app-based workers in Brazil grew 36.8% in three years, rising from 1.3 million in 2022 to 1.8 million in 2025, an increase of about half a million people. Just in the last year, the growth was 9.1%. The survey considers only people who use digital service platforms as their sole or main work, excluding those who use apps as a side job or second job.

The data comes from the third edition of the survey "Work through digital platforms," conducted by IBGE in partnership with Unicamp and the Labor Prosecutor's Office, whose results were released this Friday.

The participation of "platformized" workers in the labor market has also been increasing. In 2022, they represented 1.5% of employed workers in the private sector, a percentage that rose in 2024.
