The 43rd edition of FICABEIRA - Industrial, Commercial and Agricultural Fair of the Municipality of Arganil runs from this Friday (4th) to Tuesday (8th September), simultaneously with the traditional Mont'Alto Fair, at the Parque Verde Urbano do Sub-Paço. The event brings together companies, traders, producers, artisans and institutions from Arganil and neighbouring municipalities, promoting business and agricultural exhibition accompanied by spaces dedicated to gastronomy, craftsmanship, culture and the associative movement.
The origins of these festivities are linked to the legend of the apparition of the image of the Virgin Mary at the top of the hill overlooking Arganil. According to tradition, the population tried to build a chapel at the base of the hill, but the image disappeared during the night and reappeared at the summit. Interpreting this as a divine sign, the people built the Sanctuary at the top, giving rise to the pilgrimage to Nossa Senhora do Mont'Alto. With economic and population growth, the fair descended to the town, resulting in the current FICABEIRA, with 8th September being established as the Municipal Holiday of Arganil.
The musical programme kicks off on Friday with Dillaz, Abelhinha and the +55 Party, followed on Saturday by Miguel Araújo, Rapazes da Ramboia and DJ Pumpkin. On Sunday, Vizinhos perform at a World Dance Music show with DJ Postman. The evenings of Monday and Tuesday, the day of the Municipal Holiday, have free entry, with performances by FF, the Arganil and Barrilense Philharmonic Bands, DJs Phill K and GX, Jorge Guerreiro and DJ M. Parallel to this, the exhibitions "Arganil 100 Figures" and "Being a Watchmaker" are being held in cultural spaces of the municipality.
