SNS reference framework predicts stagnation of family doctor coverage until 2028

Diário de Viseu4 September 2026 at 13:30

The strategic framework of the National Health Service (SNS) predicts a stagnation in family doctor coverage in the coming years. According to the document, the percentage of users with an assigned family doctor should remain at 85.37% for three consecutive years, namely 2026, 2027, and 2028. This projection indicates that no significant progress will be achieved in assigning family doctors to SNS users during this period. The strategic framework document thus establishes a scenario of maintaining the current state, without improvement in the coverage rate.
