September is Blood Cancer Awareness Month and the Municipality of Loulé joined the Portuguese Association Against Leukemia (APCL) in relaunching the "The Blood in Me" campaign, which this year has the motto "If I Were in Charge." The campaign aims to raise public awareness about hemato-oncological diseases, focusing on the transition from identifying problems to finding concrete solutions, based on the experience of patients and professionals from the National Health Service.
APCL challenged nine health professionals and 11 patients to answer questions organized around four strategic areas: diagnosis and access to care, humanization, organization of NHS services, and patient support during and after treatments. The answers will be shared throughout September. The goal is to reflect on everything that can contribute to more humane, close, and equitable care.
The municipality of Loulé is one of the partner entities of the campaign, and all information and content will be shared on the digital channels of APCL and the other partner entities.
The Portuguese Association Against Leukemia was founded in 2002 by survivors and doctors from IPO Lisboa, with the mission to support patients and families, fund scientific research, and increase health literacy. In 2023, it inaugurated Casa Porto Seguro to accommodate displaced patients who need treatment.
