The Caminha Municipal Council is developing a video surveillance project for the Historic Centre of the town. The announcement was made by the Mayor, Liliana Silva, during the executive meeting held on September 2.
The decision comes in response to concerns raised about several episodes of violence and vandalism recorded during the summer season, which included assaults, damage to private property, destruction of urban furniture and acts of vandalism in public spaces.
The aforementioned situations caused unrest among the local population, traders and visitors of the municipality.
The Municipality expects to have the video surveillance system active before the summer of 2027.
