The Lisbon Stock Exchange was down 0.13% to 9,389.37 points mid-session on Friday, September 4. The biggest declines on the Portuguese stock exchange were for Galp Energia, which fell 1.33% to 20.72 euros, followed by Banco Comercial Português with a drop of 0.61% to 1.14 euros, and NOS which was down 0.40% to 4.93 euros. EDP was also in the red.
On the positive side, Jerónimo Martins was up 0.83% to 18.16 euros, Teixeira Duarte gained 0.62% to 0.48 euros, and Ibersol advanced 0.39% to 10.24 euros. REN, Corticeira Amorim, Sonae, Mota-Engil, Altri, Navigator and EDP Renováveis were also trading in positive territory.
The major European stock exchanges were mostly in the red, with the exception of the German and Dutch indices. The DAX was up 0.26%, the French CAC 40 fell 0.17%, and the British FTSE 100 slipped 0.03%. The Dutch AEX was up 0.50%, while the Spanish IBEX 35 and Italian FTSE MIB were also in negative territory.
Investors had their attention focused on US employment data, which was to be released at 1:30 PM Lisbon time. According to Millennium research, a reading below expectations could be well received by the market, as it would make it easier to believe that reducing inflation to the 2% annual target desired by the Federal Reserve would be more achievable. Oil was trading lower, with brent falling 0.42% to 95.12 dollars and crude dropping 0.67% to 90.69 dollars.
