Caminha Municipal Council Prepares Video Surveillance for the Historic Center

Alto Minho TV4 September 2026 at 11:37

The Municipal Council of Caminha is developing a project to install a video surveillance system in the village's Historic Center. The announcement was made by the president of the Council, Liliana Silva, during a meeting of the executive, following concerns raised due to several episodes of violence and vandalism recorded during the bathing season.

Among the occurrences pointed out by the mayor are assaults, damage to private property, destruction of urban furniture, and acts of vandalism in public spaces. These situations have caused concern among residents, traders, and visitors to the village.

The municipality's intention is that the video surveillance system be installed and operational before the summer of 2027. Liliana Silva noted, however, that video surveillance does not constitute, in itself, a solution to eliminate illicit or inappropriate behavior, but considered that it could play an important role in prevention and deterrence.

In addition to potentially discouraging acts of vandalism and other offenses, the system should allow authorities to have an additional tool to identify those responsible and support the investigation of occurrences.

Carles Puigdem faces an autumn with an even lower public profile than in recent months, waiting to know if the amnesty law will be applied to him and if he can finally return to Catalonia. A member of the Junts leadership explains that the expresident will not make any relevant move until he knows the decision on the amnesty. Puigdem's last public appearance was in January in Perpinyà, and since then he has only spoken through social media, not always on strictly political current affairs. Party sources indicate that Puigdem does not want his personal situation to be "handled".
